Find below the special program we created for you:
Day 1
You will arrive in Salvador and check into the Tropical da Bahia Hotel. You will experience Bahia by night, having dinner at the Solar do Unhão, also venue of the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, where you can enjoy Brazilian food and drinks, while enjoying a folkloric show. This show features an excellent presentation on local perspectives from capoeira, to samba, to ancient slave dances and even a sample of candomblé, a religious rite typical in this region.
Day 2
After breakfast, you will trace the African roots of Salvador on a city tour which combines the newer, modern section and the older Historical Center of Salvador, the Pelourinho area, so called after the pillory which stood in the main square, in front of the central slave market. You will visit the Afro-Brazilian Museum and trace the West African origins of the city and see the superb wooden, sculpted panels of the orixás by Salvadors most celebrated artist, Carybé. You will know the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, the famous Black church, built with meager resources over a period of almost 100 years. You look in on artists and sculptors at work and let the senses do the rest as you soak up the feel of this vibrant city. The buildings may be European but the rest is African.
After lunch you head to the quiet waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where the first holiday residences were built. Now a peaceful family district, life moves at a slower pace to the bustling upper city. Fishermen fish from dug out canoes, locals collect shellfish at low tide, schooners are at anchor, all protected by the famous Bonfim church, one of the most important churches of pilgrimage in Brazil and deeply syncretised with the Candomblé. You will continue to the Monserrat district with its panoramic view of the city and on to the Mercado Modelo, a thriving market for local artifacts. Its time to bargain !
Day 3
On the last day of your trip you will check-out of the hotel Tropical da Bahia and say goodbye to Salvador, then be driven in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to the airport. We are certain that you will have enjoyed your trip and we look forward to seeing you again in Brazil.
