On your fourth day in Lencois you will get to see the Capão Valley and the famous Smoke Waterfall. Cachoeira da Fumaça is reputed to be the highest waterfall in Brazil, at 350 meters (1,148 feet). You will travel by vehicle to Capao (75 km) (47 miles) until the foot of the trail to Fumaça, from where a trek of approximately 2 hours is required, which takes you across a lovely plateau covered in indigenous mountain vegetation. On reaching the top of the waterfall there are superb views of Capão Valley and if you are brave enough, you can lean over the cliff to see the waterfall below. It is called Smoke Waterfall because the water transforms into mist before reaching the ground, due to its incredible height. Lunch is provided during your rest to admire the views and the waterfall. Make sure you walk back up the Fumaca river bed and swim in the beautifully red colored water (the water is a transparent red due to the iron oxide content). On the way back from Capao to Lencois, you will have the opportunity to stop for a refreshing swim in Riachinho Waterfall. |

The villagers still live like they did years ago. Here is where you will start your canoe trip down the Marimbus River
(approximately 2 hours). You can sit back and relax while your guide paddles through beautiful wetland scenery full of impressive flora and fauna or help paddle yourself. After the canoe trip there will be a stop for lunch and a chance to swim in the river, followed by a 50 minute walk to the Roncador River where you can swim in beautiful natural pools of the Sonrisal waterfall. You will then lunch at a local farm house near the waterfall and relax in the various hammocks strung out under the mango trees. the rock into the pool it is a lot of fun, but make sure you attempt this only if your guide tells you the river conditions are ok to do so. You should wear shorts over your swimwear if you attempt this, as the rock is hard. The tour back to the village is via a different trail, which again is a charming walk. |
