The Afro-Brazilian Culture Classe combines theoretical and practical classes about Afro-Brazilian Culture. Participants receive a profound introduction to Candomblé (Afro-Brazilian religion) and the history of Afro-Brazilian culture, rituals and music, economic and social problems, and more.
You will visit an Afro-Brazilian Candomblé religious ceremony; go to markets and to Afro-Brazilian Museums and institutions. Students soon understand that these are not just cultural activities, but an intense introduction to Bahian philosophy and way of life.
You will have a professional dance instructor by your side, trained to work with foreigners and specialized in all kinds of rhythms and dances.
No matter if it is Samba and all of its variations - Samba de Roda, Samba Carioca, Samba Baiano, Pagode - or Forró, the more folkloric dance formations of Saint Johns festivities in June. Or rhythms of African origin - the body moves in perfect harmony with the music. You will be introduced to rhythms of Candomblé rituals, where every God or Godness moves to his own rhythms, having its own songs. The teacher, trained in Afro-Brazilian dances, will give you first notions of Capoeira movements that is famous in Salvador and always shown and used during the Carnaval.
